Believe it or not, I fell into 12 Step Programs because of someone else’s addiction. My loved one’s journey changed my life and my family forever. I had no idea, that I was as sick as my addicted son and I discovered that in order to help anyone in my family, I needed to recover myself. One of the things I did for myself as I began my journey of recovery was start a collection of Inspirational Rings
. This may sound silly to you but my Inspirational Rings are a source of great comfort to me, especially on days when I feel overwhelmed. One of my favorite Inspirational Rings is my 18k Gold Plated Serenity Prayer Ring – “God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change…Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference…” I can’t explain it, but it gives me a feeling of peace and contentment, whenever I recite this prayer no matter what is going on in my life. Here are a few more tips on obtaining and maintaining recovery:
#1 Establish a supportive network – seek out others in similar situations in order to support one another.
#2 Prepare for bumps in the road there is no straight path and believe it or not, the bumps make you stronger.
#3 One of the hardest ones for me: Ask for help from others. I’m a giver, and it is very difficult for me to take but I’m trying.
#4 Don’t forget: Progress Not Perfection!
#5 Be Gentle With Yourself!
Feel free to send me your stories on recovery. After all, we help each other by sharing our experience, strength and hope! “No Man Is An Island!”
