My Uncle Tom, A True World War II Hero!

Believe it or not, for much of the 20th century, asbestos was as normal in the United States military as red, white and blue. Asbestos was everywhere to be found in the military due to its ability to insulate and fireproof! The men and women whose job it was to protect our country viewed asbestos as a vital ingredient to help safeguard them. Asbestos was prevalent in all branches of services and was everywhere by design as mandated from the top.

Today, asbestos is another story, a sad story, a story of illness, disabilities and sometimes, even death! Many of our Veterans who risked their lives for our freedom are forced to cope with life-changing illnesses like mesothelioma, asbestos-caused lung cancer and asbestosis. Often times the life expectancy of the disease is short compared to that of other cancers and quite frequently patients are not diagnosed properly until the disease is in its late stages.

I recently visited with my Uncle Tom, a World War II Veteran who is unfortunately ailing from mesothelioma. He told me about Weitz & Luxenberg, a law firm which has become a household name due to their television commercials regarding asbestos. Uncle Tom informed me that they are the top asbestos lawyers in the country and he is so grateful to have found them. Although Uncle Tom, is quite ill, he was pleased to tell me that for the first time in months, he feels hopeful, not only that he will get the medical treatment he needs but also because he was compensated monetarily. He said Weitz & Luxenberg held his hand from the minute he walked into their offices. They guided him to Asbestos Veteran an organization that matched him with a veteran advocate who advised him every step of the way.

I am so happy Uncle Tom’s questions and needs are being handled by competent, trustworthy people. I hope other veterans are as fortunate as my dear Uncle Tom and find their way to Weitz & Luxenberg!

Gifts For Veterans Of The Armed Forces

“Off we go into the wild blue yonder….” Growing up in my generation, children did not have video games and computers. Other than board games, most times we used our imaginations to have fun. While little girls played house, little boys either played Cowboys and Indians or made believe they were in the Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard or Air Force. Today, many of those friends are Veterans of the Armed Forces and some, I am sad to say, are no longer with us. “I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know, I’m free and I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.” The mission of the US Air Force is to “fly fight and win”. “Nothing will stop the U.S. Air Force!” Check out these cool US Air Force Veteran Caps with or without scrambled eggs on the brim of the cap. Show Your Patriotism With This Vietnam Veteran Cap

It was the summer of 1969, the summer of Woodstock, Hell’s Angels were camping on the country roads of the Catskills. I was a little girl and I had no idea why my brother’s teenage friends were crying! Boys never cried… I was told they were going to be drafted to fight in the Vietnam War. It was a scary time for all of us. Were we ever going to see our friends and relatives again? Would they come back in one piece, become prisoners of war, missing in action or possibly wounded warriors? Would we have another opportunity to spend idyllic summers together, 4th of July, Veterans Day, birthdays, holidays? No one knew the answers to these questions and we all huddled around the television watching the news or listening to the radio trying to keep our emotions in check.
Today, there is no longer a draft and we have the option to enlist. Whether they were drafted or willingly enlisted to fight for our Country, let’s honor our servicemen and women and show our support for all they do on behalf of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! Check out this Vietnam Veteran Cap and think about purchasing one for someone you know who served or any other person who will wear these hats with pride!
